Check Out Social Networking Sites

Facebook: This is much more of a mature audience than the other social networks. There is no cute appearance changes you can do, like MySpace, and that is what I believe keeps more of a focus on what's going on with friends and what they have to say. There is second to second updating of whether or not a person is brushing their teeth or walking home but instead people leave more of a "in the moment" message or have spaced out conversations with eachother. It's so successful because there is not an excess of everything but just a touch of everything. Users have the ability to keep in contact with their friends but are not Tweeting every second of their life which can be a huge distraction from other things going on and the only thing to judge from others and friends is the actual content that is posted or pictures made available, instead of what kind of wall paper you've recently updated. It's just an automatic social network advancement in life. When you're a kid your on social networks like MySpace and when you get to college you evolve to Facebook.

MySpace: Very childlike in the way you can customize your page and interacting with others. What is valued more here seems to be what your page looks like, what music you have playing when others go to your page, and so on. There is less of an interaction going on about the world in general and more about just what's going on on a personal level. There is no fundraising for Haiti or anything like that and because it lacks users who have real world concerns and voice those concerns it is restricted to just being thought of as a teens space.

Friendstar: I feel that is social network is more of like a horrible mix between MySpace and Twitter. It has a Twitter look with a MySpace feel. Perhaps, that is why it's not as popular like other social networks. There's no originality to it, it's more of a "wanna be" social network than a big player like Facebook or Twitter. Also the look and layout of it is very unappealing to me. It's so basic and unattractive. But then again everyone has their preferences and they seem to have a following, for now.

Twitter: Definitely not one of my favorite social networks just because I don't believe it is necessary to tweet every little thing that is going on in one's own life. I believe this is definitely useful for celebrities, popular people, organizations and big companies to use because that is information people do, and should, know. However, tweeting about insignificant things does not seem appealing unless it is funny or intelligent. I do think there are some tweets that are insightful but a majority of it is not and not being able to filter the good from the bad is a turn off. Its definitely more for people who have nothing better to do than tweet something. I could definitely see how its a good way to kill time.
